recommend an reliable escrow service for their clients to use.
The following describes how basic Escrow Fraud works, however, there are numerous variaitions.

- An escrow site is recommended by the Seller as protection for the buyer. The seller caring
for the buyer's protection often impresses the buyer and causes them to put more confidence
in the seller.
- The Buyer follows the sender's advice and sends the money to the fraudulent Escrow Site.
- The Seller pockets the money and the buyer never receives any goods.
Fraudulent sellers may use a number of different fraudulent escrow sites. In a buyer does not
want to use one of them, the seller usually recommends a second one.
Seller as the Victim
- The Buyer recommends using an escrow service after indication that they would only complete
the transaction if an escrow service is used.
- The fake escrow site indicates to the seller that they have received the funds from the buyer.
- The seller sends the goods to the buyer thinking that the funds have been secured.
- The buyer keeps the goods and the seller never receives any funds from the escrow service.
